'Cause of Death: Unknown' to represent Iran at Oscars

'Cause of Death: Unknown' has been selected as Iran’s entry for the 2026 Oscars.

Iran's Farabi Cinema Foundation announced that 'Cause of Death: Unknown', directed by Ali Zarnegar, will be Iran’s entry for the 2026 Academy Awards.

According to the Foundation’s public relations office, 84 eligible films were reviewed this year.

The selection committee shortlisted five titles before unanimously selecting 'Cause of Death: Unknown', describing it as “a work worthy of participation in this global event.”

"A van with seven passengers crosses the Lut Desert when an unexpected event forces them to make a difficult decision. With no help available, they uncover a startling discovery that deepens their crisis," a synopsis for the film reads.
